Press – Modern Anne of Green Gables Baby Shower

Nothing holds the nostalgia of my younger years quite like the stories of Anne of Green Gables.  In so many ways my best friend Amy and I grew up with and through the tales of Lucy Maude Montgomery.

{As Anne, the heroine, traversed her days and years of life from a wistful and bright red-headed orphan to elegant seasons of Gibson Girl style and love affairs galore, Anne was our muse for life, love and wisdom.}

Amy and I have been fast friends since the sixth grade.  We, much like the fictional friends Anne and Diana are the epitome of kindred spirits.  We’ve been together through grade and high school, proms and drama, college roommate debauchery and adulthood milestones.

{Amy’s first baby gave me yet another opportunity to celebrate this woman I hold so dear. One who knows me better than I do myself, regardless of the miles that separate us.}

Deciding that every, single, blessed detail would be inspired by narrative from the books proved to set me and the team up for quite the challenge.  We all were committed to the look, giving all decor moments a clean vibe, slightly modern, all heartfelt.

{Last but not least…the food, oh the food!}

Three cakes were installed in front of 3×5 foot art panels featuring funny moments from the book. If you know Anne of Green Gables you’ll understand the significance of plums, mice, raspberry cordial and carrots!

The Raspberry Cordial cake inspired by the scene where Diana, Anne’s spoiled, prim and proper best friend get accidentally intoxicated off of what she though was cordial but was in fact currant wine!

The first day Anne met Gilbert (whom years later she would marry), he teased her about her “carrot” red hair! The result? A slate was broken over his head by the feisty Anne! Cake Life Bakeshop created spun sugar carrots for this beauty!

Anne was known to get lost in her daydreams and as such she neglected to cover the sauce for the next evening’s dessert of plum pudding! A mouse then found its way into the pudding!
