Colorful, moody, whimsical, arty, bold… just a few of the words that describe Irie’s Bas Meeuws inspired watercolor floral second birthday party.
You’ve never seen a floral birthday party invitation like this one.
Kristy’s Delft-inspired blue and white pattern was a great jumping off point for the decor, and she included it as a large scale birthday banner. Here’s what she has to say about her inspiration:
“Our daughter, Irie, was turning 2, and since I’m always looking for reasons to celebrate, I went all in when planning her birthday bash. Bas Meeuws is a contemporary Dutch artist whose work first caught my eye while touring the Netherlands in 2019. His use of photography with fantastical, hyper-realistic editing reminded me of a curious combination of Frida Kahlo and Salvador Dali all wrapped up with the sultriness of a Mappelthorpe image. When planning Irie’s celebration, I knew Meeuws’ mysterious blooms would be my very own muse!”
Any great party planned by Kristy starts with a unique invitation. For Irie’s invites, Momental created a Bas Meeuws inspired watercolor floral bouquet. Laser cut for a stunning silhouette, Kristy’s blooms and fruits filled the front side.
Upon entering the space, these one of a kind paper bouquets ornamented each table. Hand cut watercolor florals, leaves, and fruits made each one different.
“I hand-cut hundreds of printouts of my own detailed watercolor paintings, fastened them to wire, and built eclectic centerpieces for each table. The creeping, organic feel of each piece held a certain “Alice in Wonderland” feel all while still providing youthful fun.”
“When it comes to tips on planning events, I recommend not being as exacting or precious about your DIY projects as you think you need to be. Guests won’t notice the imperfections that you focus on at all, and so much time is wasted trying to make a detail perfect when that time can be better spent elsewhere.” – Kristy
